Sawmill Superintendent, Castlegar, British Columbia
When you join our team as a Sawmill Superintendent, you will be responsible for the overall operation and performance of the sawmill and will work closely with other areas of the business to optimize the production performance of the operation.
What You’ll Do
- Maintain the highest standards with respect to safety at all times, leading by example and ensuring the team follows all policies, procedures, practices and regulations.
- Oversee day to day operations of the Castlegar sawmill facility.
- Manage and identify opportunities to improve productivity, reduce cost, and maximize the quality, value, and recovery of lumber produced.
- Engage production and maintenance workers to achieve targets, meet expectations, and address deficiencies in a productive and professional manner.
- Ensure quality standards are met throughout the manufacturing process.
- Lead the continuous improvement process – engage and develop employees.
- Assist in maintenance prioritization and planning activities.
- Manage departmental forecasts, budgets and spending.
- Engage and support team members to achieve excellence in all areas of the business.
- Conduct employee performance reviews based on job descriptions to determine competencies and knowledge.
- Direct, maintain, and enforce the safety program for the sawmill department; review safety records to uphold standards of maximum safety for all employees.
What You Offer
- Operational leadership experience in manufacturing environment
- Experienced in all phases of sawmill and planer operations
- Thorough knowledge of lumber manufacturing including equipment, processes and products
- Working knowledge of WorkSafe BC and MOE regulations
- Strong computer skills, particularly in Microsoft Outlook, Excel and Word
- Familiarization with optimization as well as mechanical and electrical aptitude considered assets.
- Commitment to safety and environment
- Strong organizational and leadership skills
- Must possess analytical and problem-solving abilities and be detail and results oriented
- Strong working knowledge of sawmill processes
- Excellent interpersonal and communication skills with the ability to work effectively in a highly interactive/energetic team environment
- Must be a team player
- Demonstrated leadership skills along with the desire to lead and support a talented team in a fast-paced environment

What We Offer
Interfor has posted the following expected salary range that the company believes in good faith could be offered to successful candidates. The salary offered is benchmarked to current market conditions and will also be based on numerous factors which can include work experience, skills, credentials, education, and other relevant factors. In addition to a competitive salary, you will receive a competitive benefits package and be able to participate in our Short-Term Incentive Bonus plan, with the payout amount subject to individual and corporate performance. If you have any questions regarding our salary range or our total compensation package, our recruitment team will be happy to advise you on what you can expect from us.
Expected range: $119,000 – $140,000
