GIS Specialist, Chase, British Columbia

When you join our team as a GIS Specialist, you will leverage technical knowledge and analytical skills to develop web-based
solutions. You will oversee, develop, and implement GIS applications for BC
Interior operations to increase operational efficiencies for better business
practices. You will be required to work across disciplines and divisions, interacting with GIS staff
and resource specialists to ensure mapping products and tools are working as
intended. You will also lead as domain experts in geographic information and
assist with database development, ArcGIS Enterprise solutions, and operational
mapping.

What You’ll Do

  • Maintain and support existing GIS applications and implement further development as required.
  • Maintenance and development of spatial databases in Oracle and SQL Server
  • Ensure data integrity and quality through the management of GIS data standards and spatial data audits.
  • Collaborate with forestry professionals, planners, and field staff to identify GIS needs and provide spatial solutions that aid in decision-making processes.
  • Assist in systems integration development projects throughout the organization.
  • Design and implement automated workflows using Python to streamline data processing, spatial analysis, and reporting tasks.
  • Coordinate LiDAR data collection projects, process LiDAR data into end user products and integrate into existing workflows.
  • Conduct and/or facilitate detailed spatial analytics to support operational and strategic business decisions.
  • Stay current with GIS technology trends, tools, and best practices relevant to the forestry sector.
  • Other duties as required.

What You’ll Offer

  • GIS degree or diploma from a recognized university or institute of technology or higher education.
  • Demonstrated abilities with the full suite of ESRI software resources including ArcGIS Desktop, ArcGIS Pro, ArcGIS Online, ArcGIS Enterprise, and ArcGIS SDK’s.
  • Demonstrated abilities with programming languages such as Python and SQL.
  • Experience with HTML, CSS, and JavaScript is an asset.
  • Understanding of Object-Oriented Programming design.
  • Familiarity in the use and administration in Trimble Products such as Land Resource Manager (LRM).
  • Demonstrated knowledge base with respect to mapping concepts (projections, cartography, spatial editing, etc.).
  • Proficient with relational databases in Oracle and SQL Server.
  • Experience using PL/SQL is an asset.
  • Operational forestry experience or education is an asset.
  • Detailed knowledge of GIS at both conceptual and practical levels, including experience using ESRI ArcGIS Desktop 10.x, ArcGIS Pro, and ArcGIS Enterprise.
  • Strong problem-solving skills.
  • The ability to work independently and effectively during periods of high work volume.
  • Knowledge of BC interior forestry practices and operations.
  • Effective interpersonal skills, both verbal and written, are key to efficiently overseeing staff and consulting resources who work at other locations.
  • Strong commitment to safety.
  • Demonstrated commitment to industry-leading environmental and sustainable forestry practices.
