Production Superintendent

Production Superintendent, Ostrom (Gogama), Ontario

When you join our team as a Production Superintendent, reporting to the Mill Manager, you will be an engaging safety
leader who will manage a highly motivated team in a technical and fast-paced
manufacturing environment. This position will be responsible for the safe and
effective management of all production areas of the operation.

What You’ll Do

  • Maintain the highest standards for safety performance and lead with an impeccable personal example and a well-communicated vision.
  • Manage all production activities to meet various business objectives, including key elements such as product quality, productivity, recovery, conversion cost, housekeeping, etc.
  • Ensure operations fulfill all environmental standards and requirements.
  • Liaise with the log procurement team to ensure an effective, collaborative approach is used to drive system value.
  • Liaise with the sales department to ensure product alignment.
  • Work in conjunction with maintenance staff to maximize machine center performance. Assist in maintenance prioritization and planning activities.
  • Provide technical and management advice to direct reports & team members.
  • Create an environment of continuous improvement that utilizes a fact-based approach to pursuing business excellence. Ensure that targets and objectives are communicated to all processing personnel.
  • Partner with process control leadership to drive superior results in value creation.
  • Create and sustain an environment that values employees and engages them in fully contributing to the objectives of the business.
  • Manage departmental forecasts, budgets and spending.
  • Provide leadership and support for capital projects.

What You Offer

  • Thorough knowledge of lumber manufacturing including equipment and processes
  • Strong understanding of lumber products
  • Post-secondary education is preferred
  • Minimum 5 years of experience in sawmill and planer mill operations at the supervisor and/or superintendent level
  • Strong leadership and organizational skills
  • Strong analytical abilities and working knowledge of sawmill processes
  • Excellent interpersonal and communication skills and ability to work effectively in a highly interactive team environment
  • Detail and results oriented
  • Ability to function under pressure
  • Strong business focus and the ability to think tactically and strategically
