When you join our team as a Scaler,
reporting to the Project Manager – Woodlands Operations, you will be mainly
responsible for measuring the timber felled in the forest by using the apparent
volume method. In addition, you will provide support and collaborate in the
management of truck weighing operations, timber loading, measurement of
delivered timber, in accordance with the sampling program and according to the
requirements of the MFFP and the company.

What You’ll Do

  • Measure
    and maintain an accurate yard inventory.
  • Conduct
    all sample scaling for the calculation of weight to volume factors.
  • Ensure
    accurate entry of information via the computer weighing software (Félix);
  • Perform
    sampling for the measurement and calculation of weight and volume.
  • Conduct
    quality sampling of round wood received at the sawmill.
  • Ensure
    that all government and company statutes, rules, and regulations with
    respect to scaling are carried out satisfactorily.
  • Validate
    and ensure accuracy of the daily load receipts.
  • Work
    closely with sawmill and forest operations personnel to ensure the
    efficient processing of material through the weigh scale system.
  • Complete
    requests for measurement authorizations from the Ministry of Natural
    Resources and Forests;
  • Ensure
    the proper functioning of the truck scale and all its components and
    equipment as well as its maintenance;
  • Offer
    safety onboarding training to new employees
  • Perform all other tasks related to the function.

What You Offer

  • Diploma
    in forestry, forest technician or equivalent.
  • Possession
    of a valid Quebec Scaling license.
  • Relevant
    experience.
  • Knowledge
    of the operation of the Mynic data collector and Félix software is an
    asset;
  • Must
    be willing and able to work in inclement weather conditions. Basic
    knowledge of computer skills, including
  • Microsoft
    office.
  • Valid
    drivers license.
  • Results
    and quality focused.
  • Ability
    to work in a team and to establish strong interpersonal relationship.
  • Good
    analytical and organizational skills.
  • Ability
    to work with minimal supervision.
  • Demonstrate a willingness to learn.
