HRIS Intern

HRIS Intern, Burnaby, British Columbia

Are you
ready to dive into the world of HR technology, solve real challenges, and make
an impact? Interfor is looking for a curious, problem‑solving HRIS Intern to join
our team for a 12‑month contract (with the
possibility of extension). This is an in‑person role at our Burnaby office, where you’ll
learn directly from the team and stay close to work.

This internship is
perfect for a 4th‑year student or recent graduate who’s eager to
get hands‑on experience configuring and managing HR
systems and process improvements. From day one, you won’t just be observing, you’ll
be jumping into real projects, troubleshooting actual issues, and helping us
make our HR systems better for everyone who relies on them. Here’s what your
journey with us will look like:

Your First Month: Learning the Ropes

  • You meet the HR Systems team and our partners in HR, IT, and Finance, and you start to understand who Interfor is, how we create shareholder value, and how your work connects to our brand.
  • You get to know our HR technology (Cornerstone, ADP, UKG) and see how it supports our operations across Canada and the United States in both a unionized and non-unionized environment.
  • You
dive into system troubleshooting, learning how to diagnose and resolve common
    HR tech issues hands‑on.

Your First Three Months: Taking Ownership

  • You monitor interfaces and run system checks, keeping an eye out for anything unusual and recommending improvements when you spot them.
  • You partner with HR teams to refine workflows, making processes smoother and more user‑friendly.
  • You create training materials and how‑to guides that help others use the system with confidence.
  • You support quarterly system updates by testing configurations and making sure everything is working the way it should.
  • You manage incoming HR tech inquiries, tracking trends and helping the team understand what users need most.

Six Months In: Driving Impact

  • You take the lead on a process improvement initiative, working with stakeholders to make meaningful changes that actually stick.
  • You’ve become one of the go‑to people for HRIS troubleshooting, and you handle more complex questions with confidence.
  • You support data governance by helping teams understand security, accuracy, and records‑management expectations.
  • You start explaining system patterns and issues in a way that helps people “get it,” not just hear it.
  • You build strong relationships across the business and know exactly who to loop in when something needs attention.

By One Year: A Budding HR Tech Professional

  • You deliver thoughtful recommendations based on system insights, helping shape where our HR technology goes next.
  • You lead knowledge‑sharing sessions and teach others what you’ve learned, from quick tips to deeper walkthroughs.
  • You take messy problems and turn them into clear, actionable steps that bring people together on a solution.
  • You communicate options, impacts, and decisions with clarity, guiding conversations instead of just participating in them.
  • You have a portfolio of real HR tech projects under your belt, giving you a strong foundation for a future career in HR technology or business systems.
  • You’ve built a reputation as someone who “knows their stuff” and makes HR tech feel clear, accessible, and way less intimidating

What You’ll Bring to the Team:

  • You’re eager to learn and grow. You ask for feedback (and actually use it), you take mentorship and coaching in stride, and you’re excited to learn from the people around you, not because you have to, but because you want to get better every day.
  • You’re the kind of person who can’t help digging until you understand what’s really going on. You don’t stop at “I’m not sure,” and you naturally look for ways to solve the problem rather than hand it off.
  • You genuinely enjoy tech and figuring out how things could work better. New tools don’t intimidate you, you’re happy to jump in, test things out, and learn as you go.
  • You communicate in a way people actually want to read or listen to. You make technical stuff feel simple, and you keep others in the loop so they’re never guessing where things stand.
  • You stay organized even when things get busy. You juggle tasks without dropping the ball, and when something is assigned to you, everyone can relax knowing it’ll get done.

Your Background:

  • You’re pursuing or have recently completed a degree or diploma in Business, Human Resources, IT, or a related field.
  • You’re genuinely interested in HR systems, technology, and process automation and you can see yourself building a career in this space.
  • You’re comfortable with MS Office, especially Excel, Outlook, and Teams; you already know how to write IF statements and VLOOKUPs, and if there’s a formula you haven’t mastered yet, you’ve got the grit (and the curiosity) to figure it out.
  • You pick things up quickly and enjoy learning new systems, you don’t wait for someone to walk you through every step.
  • You ask great questions, you take feedback in stride, and you actually apply what you learn.
  • You bring a positive, curious, “let me try it” mindset to whatever lands on your plate.
  • You enjoy working with people just as much as you enjoy working with technology, you like understanding what someone needs and helping them get there.
