Safety Manager, Peachtree City, Georgia
When you join our team as a Safety Manager, you will be responsible for implementing and managing
world-leading safety programs at multiple mills across our
Southern Operations. This position will ensure compliance with all
Interfor safety and health policies and procedures, as well as OSHA, and other
agency regulations. Work will include safety action plans, regulatory training
and compliance, emergency preparation and response, safety inspections,
incident investigations, root cause analysis and follow-up and special
projects.
What You’ll Do
- Manage and standardize safety policies and procedures while collaborating with site and divisional leaders to continuously improve safety protocols aimed at reducing risk and ensuring compliance with local, state, and federal safety regulations.
- Oversee incident investigation and reporting and ensure consistent, standardized reporting of all safety-related incidents and near-misses.
- Support supervisors and safety committees in identifying root causes and implementing effective corrective actions.
- Conduct regular safety inspections and audits. Ensure compliance with OSHA and other regulatory requirements, and provide guidance and support for site-level safety committee inspections.
- Oversee the injury management and return-to-work program. Partner with HR and on-site injury management coordinators to facilitate appropriate medical care and ensure a timely, safe return to work for injured employees.
- Support development of safety performance goals and metrics while working with facility leadership to define short- and long-term safety objectives, strategies, and measurable outcomes using both leading and lagging indicators.
- Integrate safety system elements into roles, responsibilities, and expectations at all levels of the organization.
- Maintain a robust safety training program. Develop and oversee onboarding safety training for new hires and transfers, as well as coordinate annual training schedules to meet regulatory and company-specific requirements.
- Support industrial hygiene efforts. Coordinate or facilitate exposure assessments, including monitoring for hazards such as noise, wood dust, welding fumes, and heat stress. Partner with outside consultants when necessary.
- Maintain accurate safety documentation. Keep organized and up-to-date records of all safety-related documentation, including training logs, inspection reports, incident investigations, and OSHA reporting requirements.
- Lead risk assessment and hazard identification efforts.
- Develop and implement systems for proactively identifying, evaluating, and mitigating workplace hazards.
- Communicate the company’s safety vision and performance. Clearly and effectively share safety goals, progress, and expectations with employees, contractors, and other stakeholders to build a strong culture of safety.
What You Offer
- Degree in Occupational Health and Safety is preferred.
- Minimum 5 years of experience in a safety specific role.
- Wood products or pulp and paper industry experience is preferred; industrial manufacturing safety experience is required.
- Well-versed in OSHA and related standards and regulations.
- Valid US State driver’s license.
- Commitment to high Safety and Environmental Standards.
- Must have strong leadership, organizational, analytical, and problem-solving skills.
- Excellent interpersonal and communication skills and ability to work effectively in a highly interactive/energetic team environment.
- Detail and results oriented.
- Ability to quickly adapt to new processes and different systems.
- Ability to effectively communicate with employees, staff, and external parties.
- Skilled in conducting thorough investigations, evaluating hazards, and recommending practical corrective actions aligned with OSHA and industry best practices.
- Proven ability to investigate and evaluate safety conditions and incidents and make recommendations for workplace safety to conform to occupational safety standards.
- Intermediate to advanced MS Office skills.
