Quality Control Technician, Eatonton, Georgia
Interfor is seeking a motivated and detailed-oriented Quality Control Technician to join our team in the Planer Department in Eatonton, Georgia. This is a NIGHT SHIFT position. The successful candidate will be safety-conscious, reliable, committed, and eager to ensure product quality while supporting efficient mill operations. The pay range for this position is $19.60 per hour up to $29.21 per hour based on skill level and experience.
What You’ll Do
- Serve as the primary liaison for communicating Quality Control procedures related to lumber grading standards.
- Train, mentor, and develop graders to ensure consistent application of grading techniques.
- Provide ongoing evaluation and feedback for graders as part of the lumber grading and inspection program.
- Conduct lumber inspections alongside graders to verify proper grading techniques are applied.
- Maintain strong working relationships with graders through clear verbal and written communication, providing continuous feedback.
- Perform pack checks to ensure graders maintain correct grading standards and identify areas for improvement.
- Conduct regular grader training sessions to address issues, communicate solutions, and reinforce best practices.
- Perform shed inspections on #3 and #4 lumber to verify sawmill or natural defects and report findings to management.
- Conduct wane inspections on 2×6 to 2×4 lumber to ensure proper edging techniques are used.
- Consolidate inspection and grading data and collaborate with the Continuous Improvement Technician and management to identify opportunities for quality improvements.
- Work closely with Continuous Improvement Technicians, QC Technicians, and the Mill Manager to develop and implement an effective Quality Control Program.
- Participate in machine center studies to identify opportunities for operational and quality improvements.
- Perform weekly moisture content readings to ensure proper drying of lumber.
- Adhere to all safety procedures, ensuring tasks are performed in a safe manner to prevent injuries.
- Observe all procedures outlined in the job safety analysis.
- Collaborate with customers and visit other mill sites as required.
- Perform other duties as assigned by the superintendent or crew leader to support mill operations.
What You Offer
- 6–10 years of experience in lumber operations preferred.
- SPIB Certification required, or ability to successfully complete within the required timeframe.
- Strong computer and statistical skills are preferred.
- Flexibility to work varied hours as needed.
- Ability to manage multiple priorities in a fast-paced and changing environment.
- Strong problem-solving and reasoning skills, with the ability to work effectively with individuals who may not always respond rationally.
