Forklift Operator, Baxley, Georgia
Interfor is seeking energetic and enthusiastic team players to join our team in our Planer Department on 2nd Shift as a Forklift Operator in Baxley, Georgia. The pay rate for this position is $21.97 per hour.
What You’ll Do
- Operate forklift in a safe manner in accordance with all Interfor and OSHA standards and guidelines.
- Perform any and all duties in a safe manner to ensure no injuries occur.
- Ability to recognize problems and to effectively communicate them so they can be corrected immediately, through verbal communication, checklist, and work orders.
- Responsible for greasing and servicing equipment.
- Responsible for emptying trash dump sites and planer mill.
- Responsible for cleaning forklift using the pressure washer.
- Assist in changing tires and performing preventative maintenance tasks as specified.
- Adhere to all safety policies and perform tasks in a safe and responsible manner to ones person and no damage to mill property occurs in anyway.
- Observe all procedures specified in the job safety analysis to prevent any injuries.
- Perform any duties required as specified by the direct supervisor or any other mill supervision.
- Physical Requirements: Walking, Standing and Sitting, Stairs, Bending and Lifting (Up to 50 lbs.).
Position Specific Duties: Haul Out Lift Driver
- Responsible for carrying banded packs of lumber to correct shed safely and efficiently.
- Must be willing to stay over until planer mill is acceptable for next shift startup.
- Responsible for assisting in fixing packs of lumber that are not full, busted, and/or damaged.
- Responsible for carrying missorts to re-entry.
- Responsible for moving trim blocks and stick rack.
Position Specific Duties: Haul In Lift Driver
- Maintain constant availability of lumber to be processed at the planer. This will require:
- Setting up only the items being currently processed.
- Setting the longest lengths first on the item being processed (all 16’s then all 14’s, etc.)
- Setting all lumber units properly on the infeed chains going to the tilt hoist so they can be processed without interruption of available wood flow to the planer.
- Picking up all loose boards and cross outs immediately that are on the ground and in the direction of travel and not running over them.
- Helping to unload dry kilns and storing lumber in the proper area; making sure all units and stacks are stable and not at risk of turning over.
- Moving all stick racks as they are filled, making sure all units are securely banded before put into storage.
- Making sure problems with spills, etc., are corrected before leaving the shift.
What You Offer
- High School education or GED equivalent preferred but not required.
- Forklift certified or the ability to be certified within a reasonable amount of time and usually within one training course.
- Must be able to communicate effectively
- Must be able to respond in emergency situations and go through the proper emergency procedures.
