Yard Supervisor

Yard Supervisor, Nairn Centre, Ontario

When you join our team as a Yard Supervisor, you will play a critical role in overseeing the efficient operation of the
lumber and log yard. You will be responsible for the yard management and
supporting production with primary focus on improved material utilization and
inventory management. Also, receiving of raw materials and accountable for
processes associated with consumption and inventory management with primary
focus on improved material utilization. Also, monitoring and addressing any
environmental issues as they arise.

What You’ll Do

  • Supervise, manage, and lead the work of heavy equipment operators and yard employees and contractors.
  • Responsible for the implementation and improvement of processes, organization of our raw material, and finished product.
  • Responsible for environmental monitoring and processes.
  • Perform all related supervision duties (reports, payroll, incident reporting, performance, training, vacation, work scheduling, etc.).
  • Conduct regular audits to maintain accurate records and prevent discrepancies.
  • Report any equipment malfunctions promptly and ensure timely repairs.
  • Responsible for the compliance of our yard management plan by using best practices in yard management.This is including:
    • Yard maintenance, snow removal, sanding, keeping the environment clean and tidy and dust suppression.
    • Managing timely and disciplined FIFO lumber & round wood rotation.
    • Managing yard inventory (and residual) and month end reporting.
    • Managing truck scheduling and loading.
  • Liaise with site department heads on Safety, Production, Woodlands, Maintenance, and Human Resources.
  • Maintain a positive work environment through use of excellent interpersonal skills, team building and communication with all departments.

What You Offer

  • Minimum of 3 to 5 years of experience in a similar role, in manufacturing industry.
  • Relevant Supervisory experience and firsthand knowledge of lumber yard operations, inventory management and material handling process is preferred.
  • Good working knowledge of leading and managing with in a Collective Bargaining agreement.
  • Proficient in Excel, SAP and/or EAM experience would be considered an asset.
  • Commitment to and proven Health and Safety accountabilities.
  • Fluent in both written and spoken English; French would be an asset.
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, mobilizing and conflict management.
  • Demonstrate excellent leadership, team Player within tight deadlines.
  • Analyzing and good organizational and decision-making skills.
  • Result-oriented and problem-solving skills.
  • Strong work ethic, rigor, and good judgment.
  • The work environment includes exposure to outdoor weather conditions, noise and dust. Personal Protective Equipment will be provided.
