Forest Planning/GIS Intern, Timmins, Ontario

Interfor, we’re looking for future leaders who are curious, hands-on,
and eager to learn. You’ll work alongside experienced professionals, build
practical skills, and gain a better understanding of the work that supports
responsible forestry and the wood products industry. If you enjoy mapping,
technology, and using information to solve real operational challenges, this
internship offers the chance to see how spatial data supports forestry
decisions.

This is an on-site internship with an anticipated start date in May.
Ideally, you’ll be available for a 4 to 8 month term.

compensation for interns, including:

  • Salaries starting from $3,700 per month (based on your year in school and previous experience).
  • Temporary living allowance for
    interns moving to the area for the role.

What You’ll Do

  • Gain hands-on experience supporting forest planning and operational forestry projects.
  • Assist with planning activities related to harvesting and road construction programs.
  • Create, update, and analyze maps and spatial data used to support forestry decisions.
  • Connect field information with GIS technology to improve the accuracy and accessibility of forest records.
  • Build technical, analytical, and problem-solving skills while working alongside experienced forestry professionals.

What You Offer

  • You’re working toward a degree or diploma in Forestry, GIS, Geography, Natural Resources, Environmental Science, Conservation, or a related program.
  • You have experience with GIS tools such as ArcMap, ArcGIS Pro, or ArcGIS Online and are comfortable using Microsoft Excel.
  • You can analyze information and communicate your findings clearly, both verbally and in writing.
  • You take ownership of high-quality, timely work and are comfortable solving problems independently.
  • You’re physically able to work outdoors in varying weather and terrain conditions and travel to remote operations.
  • You have a valid driver’s license.
