Marine Officer in Training (OIT), Nakusp,
Interfor is seeking energetic and enthusiastic team
players to join our team as a Marine Officer in Training (OIT) in Nakusp.
This
is an entry level Officer in Training position based out of Nakusp,
BC with a starting wage of $36.70 per hour. The successful applicant
will need to relocate to Nakusp, BC. This is a full-time position.
What You’ll Do
- Promote
a safe working environment
- Officers
in training are responsible for assisting the master on various vessels as
a mate during rafting operations
- Construction
of boom sticks, docks, other infrastructure
- Assist
the master and mates as a deckhand on a 24hr towing vessel. This
includes towing, boom work, cooking, and cleaning.
- Be
familiar with Transport Canada, Work Safe BC and Interfor’s polices,
practices and regulations
- Bending,
twisting, lifting and pulling
- The
ability to work in all weather conditions all year around
- Member
of the Canadian Merchant Service Guild
The following certificates are mandatory but can be
provided for the right candidate:
- Small
Domestic Vessel Basic Safety (SDV-BS) – formally MED A3
- Marine
Basic First Aid
- WHMIS
certification
- TDG
What You Offer

to swim - Willing
to work up to 14-day 12 hour shifts - Willing
to work 5-day 8 hour shifts - Willing
to work up to 14 days on a 24 hour live aboard vessel - Willing
to work overtime when required - Able
to work within a team atmosphere - Must
be physically fit, able to lift, push, pull, throw 50+ pounds - Able
to work in all weather conditions all year around - Mechanically
inclined with the ability to do minor maintenance work on vessel - Able
to work in confined spaces with crew members - Previous
experience in the lumber industry would be an asset - Previous
experience working in an industrial marine atmosphere would be an
asset
