Quality Control Technician – Planer, Summerville,

Interfor is seeking energetic and enthusiastic team players to join our team as a Quality Control Technician – Planer in Summerville, . Starting rate for this position is $25.45 per hour.

What You’ll Do

  • Ensure lumber produced on shift is within
    grade parameters to maintain the grade reliability of the planer mill
  • Perform
    periodic visual inspections and check lumber for all grades to ensure that
    lumber is produced within expected grade yields, trouble shoot, and take
    appropriate action to correct.
  • Perform
    moisture content readings to ensure proper drying.
  • Document
    off grade pieces in Lucidyne Utility Package builder and work with
    Lucidyne support team to trouble shoot reasons for grading errors.
  • Serve as the primary liaison for the
    communication of Quality Control procedures pertaining to lumber grading
    standards.
  • Meet
    with lumber inspectors to conduct lumber inspections to ensure proper
    grading techniques.
  • Maintain
    the scanner so that it continues to work properly: clean the cameras,
    lasers, lamps, and sensors.
  • Check
    the scanner before each shift to make sure it’s operational, turn on
    lights and lasers, check control points (group temperature and group
    pressurization.
  • Change
    scanner over as products change.
  • Responsible for the overall training and
    development of graders.
  • Train operators on the use of the monitors
    and statistical tools, parameters and displays.
  • Perform scheduled scanner calibrations,
    usually during the weekend.
  • Prepare shift reports, share results with
    support teams, leadership and identify opportunities for improvement.
  • Interact with internal and
    external customers and suppliers.
  • Keep reliable and accurate records.
  • Clean around machinery, clean equipment
    and tools.
  • Any other tasks assigned by supervisors.

What You Offer

  • 2 to 5 years of lumber grading experience.
  • High school diploma or GED, preferred.
  • Demonstrated commitment to Safety.
  • TPI Certification required or successfully
    completed within required timeframe.
  • Must be able to read, write and understand
    written materials.
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal
    skills.
  • Strong
    self-motivation and ability to work without constant supervision.
  • Ability
    to prioritize and learn quickly.
  • Consistent
    grading results and excellent knowledge of grading rules.
  • Excellent
    troubleshooting and analytical skills.
  • Intermediate
    computer skills, especially MS Office products.
  • Understanding
    of quality process controls.
  • Must
    be able and willing to work a rotating shift. Long hours and some weekends may be
    expected.
