We are currently recruiting for a Process Controls Superintendent to join Controls team based at our regional corporate office in Peachtree City, GA. The Process Controls Superintendent will support controls and automation systems on a regional level across our mills in Arkansas, Georgia, and South Carolina, in line with overall operational and maintenance objectives. The Process Controls Superintendent will work with operations management to plan and execute control systems programming and upgrades as well as assist in troubleshooting all instrumental, vision and motion control processes, including hydraulic and pneumatic systems.

What You’ll Do

  • Develop, Plan and Implement new technologies.
    • Help commission, program, and design industrial controls systems:
      • PLC’s, Motion Controls, HMI’s, Vision Systems, and more.
  • Provide leadership and support for Capital Projects.
    • Lending technical assistance and resolution when electrical or engineering problems are encountered before, during, and after construction.
    • Review electrical engineering criteria (Project Scope, Drawings, Timelines) to identify necessary revisions, deletions, or amendments.
  • Provide leadership and support for our Regional Mills.
    • Tune and troubleshoot equipment for peak performance.
    • Work with key vendors on installing, troubleshooting, and maintaining the equipment.
    • Provide process control and automation programming, training, and troubleshooting expertise to other highly motivated mill controls and electrical staff throughout the Region.
    • Coordinate upgrades and working processes with mill production superintendents and all maintenance personnel.
  • Collaborate with other team members, engineers, technicians, or other personnel to identify, define, or solve controls-related problems.
  • Comply with government health, safety, and environmental; follow all OSHA guidelines and regulations as required.
  • Maintain technical knowledge by attending educational workshops and onsite training.

What You Offer

  • Minimum of 5 years experience in programming PLC’s and HMI’s or an equivalent combination of education.
  • Strong knowledge of Programmable Logic Controllers, especially with the Allen Bradley/Rockwell Automation ControlLogix platform.
  • Experience in developing standards and implementing best practices.
  • Proven track record of electrical equipment commissioning and troubleshooting.
  • Previous supervisory experience is preferred.
  • Post-secondary education in Electrical Engineering or automation is an asset.
  • Knowledge of NEC codes, electronics, variable frequency drives, and motion control.
  • Knowledge of hydraulics, pneumatics, and related controls.
  • Able to frequently travel to different sites as well as being able to work remotely.
  • Excellent interpersonal and communication skills and ability to work effectively either alone or in a highly interactive team environment.
  • Strong organizational and leadership skills who can build trust and relationships.
  • Ability to read and interpret blueprints, schematics, and diagrams.
  • Strong troubleshooting skills (including locating and isolating problems, identifying, and testing possible solutions, and selecting effective approaches).
  • Ability to program and troubleshoot PLC’s [ControlLogix / PLC-5 / SLC500] and automation equipment, Design and modify Factorytalk View / Wonderware HMI’s, and have a good working knowledge of Ethernet, and other industrial networks.
  • Ability to configure and troubleshoot motion control systems [Powerflex Drives / RMC / M02AE / HYD] and encoder and linear position sensors.
  • Able to identify improvement areas and develop plans to implement solutions.
  • AutoCAD experience is an asset.
