ESG Analyst

ESG Analyst, Burnaby, British Columbia

When you join our team as a ESG Analyst, you will be responsible for for supporting Interfor’s ESG strategy through the preparation and interpretation of environmental, social and governance analytics. The position will focus on measuring, analyzing and reporting on ESG performance to improve results and facilitate future goal setting. Note: We are open to the successful candidates being located at any of our operations within BC.

What You’ll Do

  • Understand, collect, analyse, and transform data into information that can be used to facilitate decision-making.
  • Assist in the development of appropriate KPIs, performance measurement, and scorecards.
  • Develop tools that enable data collection, automation, standardization of current processes/reports, and support decision-making.
  • Create templates, frameworks, and models to enable others to follow processes and analyse their businesses.
  • Review and analyse reports to ensure completeness and data accuracy.
  • Create and deliver professional, informative, and well-organized presentations.
  • Develop business cases/project plans for defined initiatives and provide tracking support (ex. monitor the performance of the portfolio against the plans and identify opportunities for improvement, update status reports, maintain risk and issue logs).
  • Develop and interpret ad-hoc reporting/analysis as required.
  • Work cross-functionally across the organization to fully understand business objectives and apply analytics in support of projects and to ensure efficient and effective problem solving and issue resolution.
  • Drive process improvement through new analytic approaches and creative thinking.
  • Ensure understanding/knowledge of products, processes and procedures is at a level required to provide strong recommendations.
  • Work closely with cross-functional teams to understand opportunities, assess value to the organization, test solutions, and train users.
  • Develop and improve reporting systems that intuitively detect, highlight, and illustrate developing trends and relationships allowing the organization to rapidly respond.
  • Maintain an understanding of public company ESG reporting trends, ESG reporting frameworks and related regulatory requirements
  • Other duties as assigned.

What You Offer

  • Master’s degree in Business Administration, Finance, Computing Science, or a related field. Operations Research background preferred.
  • Project Management experience is preferred.
  • Strong quantitative, analytical, and problem-solving skills.
  • Proficient in working with data sets.
  • Advanced knowledge of Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, and PowerPoint).
  • Tableau experience is a strong asset.
  • Minimum five (5) years of business experience in progressively more senior analytical roles, preferably with an ESG/sustainability focus.
  • Lumber industry and related experience would be a definite asset.
  • Ability to travel in Canada and the United States on an as-needed basis.
  • Excellent interpersonal, written, and oral communication skills, and data presentation skills.
  • Ability to work with a wide variety of people both internally and externally.
  • Highly organized with the ability to work on many different projects/initiatives simultaneously and with minimum supervision.
  • Ability to solve problems through data mining and quantitative analysis.
  • Fast learner with a high sense of urgency and welcomes challenges.
  • Superior attention to detail and commitment to accuracy.
  • Independent thinker, with the ability to clearly express and articulate ideas.
  • Ability to work independently in a fast-paced, deadline-driven environment.
  • Strong time management and organizational skills.
