EHS Analytics Co-op, Chase, British Columbia

When you join our team as a EHS Analytics Co-op, you will work with other
members of the EHS department to understand opportunities, test solutions,
gather data, develop decision support tools, train end users, and drive
adoption of solutions. The role requires strong data skills and the ability to
work with data from various internal and external systems. The successful
candidate will be responsible for developing analytical solutions and
implementing them in a comprehensive, robust, and user-friendly manner.

What You’ll Do

  • Understand, collect, transform, and analyze data to facilitate decision making.
  • Create templates, frameworks, and models to enable processes and help others analyze their business function.
  • Develop tools for data collection, automation and standardization of current processes and reports.
  • Create and deliver professional, informative, and well-organized presentations.
  • Drive process improvement by applying analytical approaches and creative thinking.
  • Work closely with cross-functional teams to understand business objectives and opportunities, assess the value of analytics to the organization, test solutions and train users.
  • Create reports and pull key metrics and safety trends from a safety database.
  • Facilitate, participate in activities including safety committees, employee-led safety initiatives, safety improvement project teams, etc.
  • Assist in the development and implementation of manufacturing safety action plans including emergency response planning and drills.
  • Assist in the creation and implementation of employee safety and health communications and training initiatives.
  • Assist with site-specific training as required.
  • Facilitate or participate in safety and health inspections and audits and ensure the management of compliance with regulatory safety requirements.
  • Assist in accident/incident investigations – help with investigative process as well as ensuring follow up actions are applicable and completed in a timely fashion.
  • Coordinate light duty and return to work programs by collaborating with 3rd party claims management company.

What You Offer

  • Working towards an undergraduate degree or diploma in Wood Products Processing, Natural Resources, Forestry, Operations Management, Human Resources Management, Safety, Business Analytics, Business Administration, Computing Science, or other related programs.
  • Strong quantitative, analytical, and problem-solving skills.
  • Basic understanding of safety rules and regulations is preferred.
  • Proficient in working with data sets. SQL knowledge preferred.
  • Advanced knowledge of Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, and PowerPoint)
  • Tableau experience is a strong asset.
  • Prior industrial and/or heavy equipment experience is desirable for certain assignments.
  • Mechanical aptitude or sawmill optimization experience is an asset, but not required.
  • Knowledge of lumber manufacturing principles and processes an asset, but not required.
  • Ability to solve problems through data mining and quantitative analysis.
  • Independent thinker with excellent interpersonal, written, and oral communication skills, and data presentation skills.
  • Ability to work with a wide variety of people across the company.
  • Highly organized with the ability to work on many different projects/initiatives simultaneously.
  • Superior attention to detail and commitment to accuracy.
  • Ability to work independently in a fast-paced, deadline driven environment.
  • Commitment to maintain a safe work environment without compromise.
  • Working conditions include exposure to mill environment, (heat, cold and noise) and physical functions could include climbing of stairs, ladders, and catwalks at elevated levels, walking on even or uneven surfaces, bending, kneeling, pushing, and pulling.
