When you join our team as a Benefits Specialist, you will be responsible for supporting the Manager, Benefits & Pension in ensuring appropriate execution of our benefits & pension programs across Canada. The successful candidate will resolve complex benefits queries, lead compliance administration, and manage the benefits Knowledge Base. We are seeking someone who is highly motivated, independent, well-organized, and energetic to join the team in our Montreal office.

What You’ll Do

  • Responsible for administering our Canadian employee benefit and pension plans.
  • Provide technical expertise and counsel on governance matters related to the administration of pension and benefits plans, ensuring alignment with regulatory requirements and Interfor policy.
  • Participate in special projects, including the design and development of new or improved pension and benefit programs.
  • Coordinate our various Canadian employee benefit and pension plans between the employee, insurer, manager, local HR representatives and any other relevant parties.
  • Lead and administer compliance projects such as annual pension reporting & filings.
  • Formulates, interprets, and accurately applies collective agreement rules with regards to benefits & pension.
  • Bring discrepancies and errors to the attention of the Benefits Manager through regular audits.
  • Build relationships with employees and local HR so you are the first call for any general questions or enquiries regarding our benefit or pension policies, programs, processes, and procedures.
  • Work closely with payroll to ensure that employee enrolment, changes and terminations are accurate.
  • Manage annual open enrollment including benefit plan set up in ADP, marketing and employee communications and successful rollout of benefit changes.
  • Contributes to HR-related projects by gathering data, developing reports, and presenting analysis options and recommendations to team members and HR leadership.

What You Offer

  • Bilingualism required – English & French, both oral and written.
  • Bachelor’s degree in Human Resources, Business or a related field.
  • 5 years of experience working in employee benefits.
  • CEBS designation (or working towards).
  • Proficiency with MS Office applications, with strong skills in Outlook, Word, Excel, SharePoint and PowerPoint.
  • Strong proficiency in various Microsoft Excel functions (i.e. formulas, pivot tables, conditional formatting).
  • Ability to organize a wide range of duties effectively and efficiently while maintaining a high level of accuracy and quality of work with constant interruptions .
  • Display tact, diplomacy and discretion in handling information of confidential or sensitive nature.
  • Believe in the importance of teamwork, collaboration and meeting your commitments
  • Excellent interpersonal, written and oral communication skills.
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills.
  • Willingness and initiative to recognize areas for improvement and efficiency in day to day processes.
  • Have a high interest and ability to engage in ongoing learning and development to continuously improve skills and knowledge.
