National Forest Week - The future of BC Forests

Ric Slaco, Vice President & Chief Forester
September 25, 2017

This week is National Forest Week, a time to celebrate our rich forest heritage and create awareness about the bright future of this valuable, renewable resource, and why it is so important to people in Canada.

At Interfor, we have been building value for people through more than 50 years of forest stewardship. This opportunity will continue so future generations can make a living from truly sustainable, carbon-friendly forests, while also managing for conservation values.

By building trust with our people, shareholders, governments and the communities in which we work, we present a future based on:

  • Practicing sustainable forest management – our woodlands are independently certified to internationally recognized Sustainable Forestry Initiative (SFI) standards. Interfor also successfully collaborated with environmental groups on recommendations for the historic Great Bear Rainforest agreement.
  • Investing in our operations – we have spent $200 Million in capital investments to upgrade our manufacturing operations in BC over the past decade.
  • Building relationships with First Nations – our strong relationships with BC First Nations have resulted in more than 80 agreements, and will continue to grow.
  • Supporting community growth – we proudly support more than 60 community organizations throughout BC.

Interfor is part of the forestry narrative in BC, and we are proud of our achievements. Learn more about National Forest Week here.
